The Civil War was a time of great technological innovations. Inventors created all types of new weapons, they changed the way future wars will be fought as well as changed the way that people lived. One of the most famous invention is the rifle. This gun had a range of about 1,000 and were really precise. This was an impressive improvement from the musket a gun that could barely fire from 250 yards and it was not very accurate. The only flaw with the rifle were its its bullet. They were large and hard to reload. The problem was later solved by a French Inventor named Claude Minié that created cone shaped lead bullet. They could be loaded quickly and they were also more accurate therefore deadlier. Ninety percents of the war casualties were caused by rifles and muskets. To spy on their avversarie Union soldiers floated over Confederate camps in balloons. They are hydrogen filled passenger balloons. From there they sent information back to their superior with the telegraph. Union used ironclad warship to blockade the Confederate ports. In their side, the Confederacy tried sinking these ships with submarines. Also railroad were used for transport through the nation.
